Kitchen Remodeling on the North Shore
Built for Houses That Were Built to Last

North Shore kitchens sit in some of the oldest and best-built housing stock in the Chicago area. Colonials, Tudors and prairie-style homes from the 1920s through the 1960s, many of them renovated once or twice already, often by someone who took shortcuts behind the plaster.

That history is the job. A North Shore kitchen remodel is rarely just cabinets and countertops — it is finding out what three generations of previous work left behind, and deciding what has to be put right before anything new goes in.

What a kitchen remodel actually involves in Chicago's North Shore

Plaster and lath, not drywall

Original walls need to be opened carefully and patched by someone who has done it before. Blown-out plaster at the edge of a new opening is the tell of an inexperienced crew.

Supply and waste lines at end of life

Galvanized supply and cast-iron waste are common in homes of this age. Once a wall is open it is usually cheaper to replace them than to close up and hope.

Panels that predate modern kitchens

An induction range, a double oven and dedicated small-appliance circuits add up fast. Many North Shore homes need a service upgrade before the kitchen can be specified honestly.

Load-bearing walls in older framing

Opening a kitchen to a dining room usually means a beam, a structural review and a village permit — not a weekend of demolition.

Permits that differ town to town

Winnetka, Glencoe, Wilmette and Lake Forest each run their own review and inspection process. Build the schedule around the slowest one, not the fastest.

Working through a Chicago winter

Dust containment, keeping the house heated and sequencing deliveries around snow are all part of the plan when the job runs November to March.

Kitchen Remodeling in Chicago's North Shore

How long does a North Shore kitchen remodel take?

Most full kitchen remodels run 6–10 weeks on site once materials are in hand. Older North Shore homes add time when plumbing, electrical or structural work is uncovered during demolition, which is why we survey before quoting rather than after.

Do you handle village permits?

Yes. Permit requirements vary across the North Shore and we build the review timeline into the schedule up front, rather than treating it as a delay once the job has started.

Can we stay in the house during the work?

Most clients do. We set up dust containment, protect flooring on the route in and out, and can arrange a temporary kitchen setup so the household keeps functioning through the build.

Do you work in Winnetka, Glencoe and Kenilworth?

Yes — those along with Wilmette, Northfield, Glenview, Northbrook, Deerfield, Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Evanston and Park Ridge.
